OT for Kids

Does My Child Need OT?

If your child exhibits any of these behaviors or challenges, it might be worth considering an Occupational Therapy (OT) evaluation.

These signs can indicate underlying sensory, motor, or developmental difficulties that OT can address.

Easily Distracted or Poor Attention Span
- OT can address sensory processing issues or other factors affecting focus and attention.

Overly Sensitive to Touch, Movement, Sounds, or Sights
- This may indicate sensory processing challenges, where OT helps your child tolerate and adapt to sensory input.

Difficulty Accepting Change
- OT can build skills for flexibility and coping strategies, helping children adapt to transitions and new routines.

Low Muscle Tone
   -
OT helps strengthen muscles and improve postural control, enabling better participation in daily activities.

Doesn't Skip, Jump, or Hop on One Foot
- These could point to delayed gross motor development, which OT can support through targeted exercises and play-based activities.

Walking on Toes
- This may be linked to sensory processing or motor coordination issues, both of which OT can address.

Activity Level That’s Too High or Too Low
- Whether your child struggles to stay still or needs encouragement to engage, OT can work on self-regulation and energy modulation.

 Picky Eating
- OT supports children in expanding their food preferences, addressing sensory aversions or oral motor difficulties.

Limited Play Skills
- OT fosters social, cognitive, and fine motor development to enrich your child’s ability to play and interact with others.

Next Steps
An OT evaluation can provide a clearer understanding of your child’s strengths and areas for growth. From there, a personalized plan can be created to help your child reach their full potential in everyday activities.
